Mulch

Mulch is a layer of organic or inorganic material applied to the soil surface in gardens and landscapes to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Common organic mulches include wood chips, bark, straw, and compost, which break down over time and improve soil fertility. Inorganic mulches, such as gravel, pebbles, or rubber mulch, are durable and low-maintenance, but do not provide nutrients to the soil.
