Tree Staking

Tree staking is the process of providing support to newly planted trees to help them establish a strong, upright growth habit. This technique involves placing stakes around the tree and securing it with flexible ties to prevent it from toppling over in high winds or due to its own weight. Tree staking is particularly important for young trees with shallow root systems or those planted in exposed areas. The stakes should be positioned outside the root ball to avoid damaging the roots, and the ties should be loose enough to allow for natural movement, which encourages stronger trunk and root development. Staking should be temporary, with the supports removed once the tree is established to prevent girdling and other damage.
