Winterization

Winterization is the process of preparing a garden or landscape for the winter season to protect plants, soil, and hardscape elements from the damaging effects of cold weather. This practice includes tasks such as mulching around the base of plants to insulate roots, covering sensitive plants with frost blankets or burlap, and draining irrigation systems to prevent freeze damage. Perennials may be cut back, and tender plants may be brought indoors or into a greenhouse. Winterization also involves cleaning up fallen leaves and debris to prevent pest infestations and diseases from overwintering. Proper winterization helps ensure that plants survive the winter and emerge healthy in the spring, ready to grow and thrive in the new season.
